Action-oriented Benchmarking: Using the CEUS Database to Benchmark Commercial Buildings in California
نویسندگان
چکیده
The 2006 Commercial End Use Survey (CEUS) database developed by the California Energy Commission is a far richer source of energy enduse data for non-residential buildings than has previously been available, and opens the possibility of creating new and more powerful energy benchmarking processes and tools. In this article—Part 2 of a two-part series—we describe the methodology and selected results from an actionoriented benchmarking approach using the new CEUS database. This approach goes beyond whole-building energy benchmarking to more advanced end-use and component-level benchmarking that enables users to identify and prioritize specifi c energy effi ciency opportunities—an improvement on benchmarking tools typically in use today.

Using the fuzzy linear regression method to benchmark the energy efficiency of commercial buildings
Benchmarking systems from a sample of reference buildings need to be developed to conduct benchmarking processes for the energy efficiency of commercial buildings. However, not all benchmarking systems can be adopted by public users (i.e., other non-reference building owners) because of the different methods in developing such systems. An approach for benchmarking the energy efficiency of comme...

Smalland medium-sized commercial buildings owners and utility managers often look for opportunities for energy cost savings through energy efficiency and energy waste minimization. However, they currently lack easy access to low-cost tools that help interpret the massive amount of data needed to improve understanding of their energy use behaviors. Benchmarking is one of the techniques used in e...
متن کاملModel-Based Benchmarking with Application to Laboratory Buildings
The most common method of benchmarking energy use in buildings is to compare the energy use of the building under consideration with the energy use of a population of like buildings. Usually there is some empirical compensation for features and factors that affect energy use such as the size of the building and the weather conditions. Two fundamental limitations of this approach are: 1) only si...
متن کاملBenchmarking the energy efficiency of commercial buildings
Benchmarking energy-efficiency is an important tool to promote the efficient use of energy in commercial buildings. Benchmarking models are mostly constructed in a simple benchmark table (percentile table) of energy use, which is normalized with floor area and temperature. This paper describes a benchmarking process for energy efficiency by means of multiple regression analysis, where the relat...
متن کاملObjective Building Energy Performance Benchmarking Using Data Envelopment Analysis and Monte Carlo Sampling
An objective measure of building energy performance is crucial for performance assessment and rational decision making on energy retrofits and policies of existing buildings. One of the most popular measures of building energy performance benchmarking is Energy Use Intensity (EUI, kwh/m2). While EUI is simple to understand, it only represents the amount of consumed energy per unit floor area ra...
